I have just recently started running into a situation where my existing clients are getting phone calls from SEO firms all over the place telling them that whoever is doing their SEO is employing black hat tactics and they will eventually suffer the same fate as J.C. Penny did. Now I am as white hat as is gets in my SEO, but it just goes to show you the lengths companies will go to in getting clients. Baseless scare tactics. I've actually had to call my clients and explain to them what is going on with this. I tell them they are talking to a telemarketer who is simply using a recent news even to try to scare them into switching SEO firms. I deal only with companies in my local area and meet with all my clients face-to-face at least once a month. That relationship building helps me keep clients for extended periods of time.
