Dear Kay,
We're sorry to hear about the condition of the pencils.
Could you please confirm whether the box was wrapped with bubble wrap when it arrived? If possible, we would also appreciate any photos of the packaging and the damaged pencils.
Prismacolor Premier Coloured Pencils are unfortunately known to be more fragile than many other professional artist-grade pencil brands. While the manufacturer describes them as 'break-resistant', many artists have reported that the soft cores can be prone to breakage.
This is mainly due to their soft wax-based cores. The buttery, creamy texture makes them excellent for blending and layering, but the softer core provides less structural strength than harder pencil formulations.
In some cases, off-centre pigment cores or slight imperfections in the wood casing can also contribute to breakage during sharpening, as uneven pressure may cause the core to split or snap.
One method that can help reduce sharpening-related breakage is to hold the pencil still and rotate the sharpener around it, rather than turning the pencil itself. This minimises twisting stress on the core.
Please contact us directly by email regarding this matter so that we can assist you further.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
