Create, frame and display your artwork with our exclusive LUCA Floating Canvas range at Art Supplies Australia.
Each set combines a primed stretched cotton canvas with a removable floater frame, creating a narrow visual gap around the artwork. This contemporary framing style makes the canvas appear to float inside the frame while keeping the full painted surface visible.

Designed for Acrylic and Oil Painting
LUCA floating canvases are prepared for use with acrylic and oil paints. The canvas can be removed from the floater frame before painting, helping protect the frame from paint and allowing easier access to the edges of the canvas.
Once the artwork is completely dry, position the canvas inside the frame and secure it using the supplied hardware.
Why Choose a Floating Canvas?
A floater frame gives stretched canvas artwork a clean, professional presentation without covering the edges of the painting. The small gap between the canvas and frame creates depth and visually separates the artwork from its surroundings.
LUCA Floating Canvas sets include the canvas and coordinating frame, removing the need to source a separately sized floater frame after completing the artwork.
Frequently Asked Questions About LUCA Floating Canvas
What is included with a LUCA Floating Canvas?
Each product includes a stretched cotton canvas, a coordinating removable floater frame and the specified mounting hardware. Check the individual product listing for the exact inclusions.
What is a floating canvas?
A floating canvas is a stretched canvas displayed inside a floater frame with a small visible gap around its edges. This makes the artwork appear to float inside the frame.
Should I remove the canvas from the frame before painting?
Yes. Removing the canvas helps protect the floater frame from accidental paint marks and provides easier access to the canvas edges. Reattach it after the artwork has completely dried.
Can I use acrylic paint?
Yes. LUCA floating canvases are primed and suitable for acrylic painting.
Can I use oil paint?
Yes. The primed canvas surface is suitable for oil painting. Allow the artwork to dry adequately before placing it back inside the floater frame.
What is the difference between the thin-edge and thick-edge options?
The thin-edge version uses an 18 mm-deep stretched canvas with a 31.5 mm floater frame. The premium thick-edge version uses heavier 12 oz canvas and a deeper 43 mm floater frame, creating a more substantial profile.
Can the natural pine frame be painted or stained?
The unpainted natural pine frame can be customised with a compatible paint, stain or varnish. Test the finish in an inconspicuous area and follow the coating manufacturer’s preparation instructions.
Is assembly required?
The canvas and floater frame are supplied as a removable set. After completing your artwork, the canvas must be positioned and secured inside the frame using the supplied mounting hardware.
